8/26 Chuck is BACK!!!!!!

What do I mean by this? I'll tell you. Sometime late this afternoon, he came fully into himself, understood where he was and asked me help him understand what had happened to him. The Akron Beacon journal article has been tacked to our bulletin board and he looked at it and asked me to read it to him. I read it to him, he listened very carefully. At the end, he shook his head and said "Phew."

A: Did you realize all this had happened?
C: No
A:You're just now understanding how you got here?
C: Yes
A: Do you remember any of it
C: (Shaking his head) No.
A: Do you know what I mean when I say the building in Akron, 244 Grand?
C: Yes
A: B. is helping us take care of it now. She felt pretty awful she sold it to you.
C: (Smiles) No kidding?
A: Chuck you were in a coma for over 40 days. Can you appreciate how well you're doing in just a short week?
C: Yeah, I can see it.

(We discussed many topics at more length than I'm including here)

He warmly greeted Jeff Sheeley who came to visit.

Jeff: How do you feel
C: (teared up and laughing) Pretty terrible
J: You look good
C: You look good too
J: Well, we've both looked better
C: (laughing) That's true
A: I don't think we've met (Jeff introduces himself)
J: BCF banks with us but, more than that, Chuck is a friend
C: Jeff is a GREAT friend

They visited and then in came Stacey, Lauren and Allie. Chuck lit up, cried, hugged everyone and spent the rest of the evening getting Lauren and Allie's attention, playing with them, doing knock knock jokes, walking across the room, holding Allie's baby doll. The girls were unsure about Grandpa Chuck and his way of talking that's sort of garbled right now, but it didn't take long for them to get completely comfortable and to just smile and love him and vie for his attention with dances and jokes. When Chuck hugged both his grandkids and his daughter tonight and said "I love you," I don't think my heart was big enough to contain the surfeit of pure joy. And it's going to keep getting better????? Chuck sat up and quite consciously waited for them to arrive for a couple hours. After they left, he absolutely went kaput.

So much is going on so fast now, this blog won't contain it. Jean Hamed came by tonight and helped me not butcher Chuck while I shaved him with a cheap razor. I explained the "healing blanket" to Chuck and he took it and put it over his head. Come to think of it, his consciousness came back with the above-described clarity after that! The power of prayer. I told Lauren the reason Grandpa Chuck was doing so much better was because of all the prayers. She said "We pray for Grandpa Chuck." I said, "See, it's working. See how God and Jesus are answering our prayers?"

Okay... now listen to this: I explained the blog to him tonight. Chuck's circle of love. He repeated it: "Chuck's circle of love." I asked him if he would be willing to be the one to make the post tomorrow, Chuck talking, me typing. He said yes.

Folks, I think Chuck will be posting on this blog very very shortly. (I anticipate him being wiped out tomorrow after today's events, but we'll see!) He is GETTING THE TRACH OUT tomorrow and that sucker will heal up in a week or so.

Chuck is going to be well. Chuck is perfect.
